Taylor's walk-off double highlights Softball's final day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team capped off its spring trip to Florida with a pair of wins on Friday. Sydney Taylor delivered a walk-off, two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to carry the Cougars past Bellevue University 4-3. Then, SAU erupted for 12 runs in a 12-4 rout of Carlow University.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bellevue plated a run in the first inning and another in the second to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Spring Arbor tied the game with two runs in the third. Hope Longenbarger doubled to drive in Chloe Gignac, and Taylor followed with another double allowing Longenbarger to cross the plate.
  • The Bruins threatened in the seventh. With the score still tied 2-2, BU's Maricela Egan attempted to score from second base on a single, but was thrown out at the plate on a great throw from Taylor.
  • The Cougars had their chance to win it in the home half of the seventh, but would leave the bases loaded.
  • Bellevue scored in the eighth inning, but SAU would rally back. After the Bruins intentionally walked Longenbarger to load the bases, Taylor ripped a two-out, two-RBI double to left to win it for the Cougars.
  • Gignac was 4-for-5 in the game with two runs scored. Taylor and Kyla Semones collected two hits apiece while Taylor recorded three RBI's.
  • Lauren Wirgau was terrific in the circle, holding the Bruins to just one earned run on six hits while striking out seven.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor put Carlow away early in its second game of the morning. The Cougars scored seven times in the first inning and added another run in the second to go up 8-0 after two innings of play.
  • Cora Millay went 2-for-3, including a home run, with three RBI's and two runs scored. Taylor also homered, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Kyla Semones and Hannah Sutton also recorded two hits each..
