Softball earns Game 2 win in Goshen doubleheader

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team claimed an 8-5 win over Goshen College in game two after falling 4-0 in game one in a Crossroads League doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Spring Arbor bats were silenced in game one as Goshen's Emily Cummings tossed seven shutout innings and limited the Cougars to only three hits.
  • Goshen did all of its damage in the first three innings. The Maple Leafs scored twice in the first and added single runs in, both, the second and third.
  • Lauren Wirgau pitched all six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits while fanning five batters.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • After being shutout in game one, Spring Arbor got the offense going early in game two. Kyla Semones provided an RBI hit in the first inning and Brooklyn Stafford drove in Sydney Taylor with a single in the second. Hannah Sutton would also cross the plate in the inning on a double steal.
  • With the score tied 3-3, the Cougars took the lead for good in the fourth inning, cashing in on a Goshen error to help push three runs across.
  • Millay, Stafford and Chloe Gignac posted two hits apiece while Millay and Stafford scored twice each.
  • Melody Donovan earned the win, pitching all seven innings and striking out three batters.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor hosts No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Apr. 27 starting at 11 a.m. in its final games of the regular season. It will be Senior Day for the Cougars as the honor their four seniors, Amber Beal, Kyla Semones, Hannah Sutton and Sydney Taylor.
