PITTSBURGH – The No. 4 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team opened the 2019 season Tuesday night with a 2-0 shutout win over Carlow University at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Morgan Marshall got her senior campaign off to a fast start, scoring both Cougar goals in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor jumped on top early in the 2019 debut for both sides. In the eighth minute, Kaley Buck sprang Marshall free on a breakaway with a long ball over the top of the Carlow backline and Marshall chipped a shot over the Celtic goalkeeper's head to put the Cougars up 1-0.
- Marshall would strike again just moments later to double the SAU lead. Alyvia Thorne dribbled along the endline before slipping a cross in front of the goal to Marshall, who redirected the pass into the back of the net.
- Spring Arbor finished the night with 15 shots, including 10 on goal, while holding Carlow to four total attempts.
- Samantha Tracey recorded three first half saves as her and Emily Ponstein combined for the clean sheet.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Spring Arbor recorded its fourth straight opening day win.
- The Cougars improved to 3-0 against Carlow since 2012 – outscoring the Celtics 9-0 in three meetings.
- Marshall registered her third career multi-goal game.

Spring Arbor will host Point Park University (0-0-0) in its home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
