COLUMBIA, Ky. – In a matchup featuring two of the top teams in the country, it was No. 10 Spring Arbor University that came out on top with a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Martin Methodist College on Saturday night to close out the 2019 Lindsey Wilson Classic.
The Cougars went up 2-0, behind goals from Madison Marshall and Mackenzie Selvius, and held on to improve to 4-2-1 overall while the RedHawks were dealt their first loss of the season, dropping their record to 3-1-1.
In addition to the win over Martin Methodist, Spring Arbor also rallied from a one goal deficit to earn a 1-1 draw with No. 6 ranked Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday night. Selvius scored the lone SAU goal in the 69th minute.

AGAINST MARTIN METHODIST
- After playing from behind in each of the last three matches, Spring Arbor that jumped out on top in the early stages against the fourth-ranked RedHawks. Marshall started the scoring in the 35th minute, scoring off a cross from Lexi Ponstein. Then, less than six minutes later, Selvius buried a penalty kick to double the lead.
- Martin Methodist got one back before halftime, scoring on a penalty kick of its own.
- That would be all the Cougars would surrender to the RedHawks, however, shutting down one of the nation's most dangerous attacking teams.
- Spring Arbor outshot Martin Methodist 19-11 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- SAU goalkeeper Samantha Tracey made three saves on the night.
AGAINST LINDSEY WILSON
- Lindsey Wilson took advantage of its first opportunity, scoring off a set piece seven minutes into the match.
- Despite conceding the early goal, Spring Arbor controlled the much of the match, finishing the night with a 25-12 shot advantage.
- The Cougars had a chance to even the score before halftime after receiving a penalty kick in the 29th minute. However, Marshall's attempt was saved by Lindsey Wilson's goalkeeper.
- Spring Arbor found the equalizer in the Selvius' goal in the 69th minute.
- In overtime, Spring Arbor thought it had found a game-winner, but the goal was nullified due to a foul call.
- SAU goalkeeper Emily Ponstein finished the evening with six saves, including a couple key stops to keep the Cougars within striking distance.

Spring Arbor will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a road trip to Lawrence Tech (3-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
