Cougars drop league matches to Taylor, MVNU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team dropped a pair of Crossroads League matches over the weekend. The Cougars suffered a 3-1 loss to Taylor University on Friday night before falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene in four sets on Saturday.

FINAL SCORE: Taylor def. Spring Arbor 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • All four sets were decided by four points or less. Taylor won the first set and Spring Arbor answered in the second. However, the Trojans claimed the pivotal third set in extra points before securing the match in the fourth frame.
  • Sydney Ritz and Alison Ford finished with double-digit kills. Ritz posted a match-high 15 with a .375 hitting percentage while Ford had 10 kills in addition to 12 digs and two aces. Setters Emily Martin and Sarah Eliason combined for 35 assists.
  • Paige Porter recorded a match-high 18 digs, as well as a pair of aces. Kyara Black had six blocks.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor came out strong and never trailed on the way to taking the first set. Mount Vernon Nazarene settled in, however, and won the second set to even the match before also claiming the next two.
  • Ritz matched her season-high with 17 kills while hitting at a .357 clip. She also picked up 20 digs to register her sixth double-double of the season.
  • Maggie Watson posted a career-best 12 kills while Ford chipped in 10. Martin and Eliason combined for 45 assists.
  • Five Cougars ended the afternoon with double-digit digs. In addition to Ritz's 20, Paige Porter collected a match-high 23 and was followed by Eliason with 16, Martin with 12 and Ford with 11.
