HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team dropped a pair of Crossroads League matches over the weekend. The Cougars fell to Grace College in five sets on Friday night and suffered a 3-1 defeat at Huntington University on Saturday.

VS. GRACE

FINAL SCORE: Grace def. Spring Arbor 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 19-25, 15-13)

LOCATION: Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center | Winona Lake, Ind.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 4-7 (0-6 CL), Grace 8-9 (4-2 CL)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

• After Grace grabbed a two-sets-to-one lead, Spring Arbor stayed alive by winning the fourth set, using a 10-2 run to force a decisive fifth set. The fifth set went back and forth the whole way, but with the score tied 13-13, the Lancers won the next two points to take the match.
• Sydney Ritz finished with 13 kills and 14 digs while also recording three aces and three blocks. Macey Rupp tallied 11 kills and Alison Ford followed with nine. Paige Porter had a match-high 19 digs to go along with three aces.
• Setter Emily Martin handed out a career-high 47 assists.

FINAL SCORE: Huntington def. Spring Arbor 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22)

LOCATION: Platt Arena | Huntington, Ind.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 4-8 (0-7 CL), Huntington 9-8 (3-4 CL)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

• A late 4-0 run helped give Spring Arbor the first set, but Huntington rallied back and won the next three sets.
• Ritz was the only Cougar to record double-digit kills, finishing the match with 12. Claudia Ellis had nine kills and five blocks.
• Martin closed the afternoon with 32 assists and had 12 digs to register a double-double.
• Paige Porter and Sarah Chastain anchored the SAU defense with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

After three straight road matches, Spring Arbor returns home for Homecoming weekend. The Cougars play Goshen College (5-13, 0-6 CL) on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. and the University of Saint Francis (14-5, 6-1 CL) on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
