Nationally ranked Huntington slips past Women's Basketball

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball came up just short of knocking off Huntington University on Wednesday night inside the McDonald Athletic Center, falling 64-59 to the No. 21 ranked Foresters.

The Cougars erased a double-digit second half deficit, and only trailed one in the final minute, but the Foresters managed to hang on and escape with the narrow victory.

Teona Feldpausch and Grace Shoobridge registered a double-double. Feldpausch posted team-highs with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Shoobridge finished with 13 points and 10 boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • An 11-0 second quarter run helped put Huntington in the driver's seat and gave the Foresters a 40-30 lead at halftime.
  • Spring Arbor battled back in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 21-12. Feldpausch scored eight points in the period to lead the charge and close the gap to one, 52-51, heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • The Cougars grabbed the lead, 55-54, behind another bucket from Feldpausch midway through the fourth quarter. However, Huntington answered with four quick points and would never surrender its lead.
  • Trailing by only one in the final minute, SAU had a chance to take the lead but shot in the paint did not go, and the Foresters made enough free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
