MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team opened the 2020-21 season at the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
Spring Arbor dropped its opening game against Indiana Tech 77-63 on Friday night before falling to Cornerstone University 82-73 on Saturday.

VS. INDIANA TECH
- Brandon Durnell got off to a great start, making eight of his first nine shots and scoring 20 points in the first 11 minutes of the game.
- A bucket by Joshua Laman in the closing seconds of the period sent the two teams into halftime tied 39-39.
- Indiana Tech took control early in the second half. The Warriors used a 17-4 run over the first eight minutes of the stanza to pull ahead by double digits.
- Durnell matched his career-high with 32 points on 13-of-19 shooting. He also hauled in a game-best 16 rebounds.
- Spring Arbor shot 41 percent from the field, but was held to 28 percent from 3-point range. Indiana Tech made 51 percent of its shots.
VS. CORNERSTONE
- A slow start hurt Spring Arbor against Cornerstone. The Cougars were held to 27 percent shooting through the first 20 minutes, allowing the Golden Eagles to take a 41-25 advantage into halftime.
- Cornerstone led by 24, 79-55, with 6:11 remaining in the game, but SAU continued to battle closing the gap to 12 in the final minute, but the Golden Eagles' lead was too much to overcome.
- Durnell led SAU with 21 points and seven rebounds. Daniel Cluster recorded a career-high 18 points while Denver Cade followed with 13 and Cottingham added 10.
- Spring Arbor shot 43 percent on the afternoon while Cornerstone made 46 percent of its field goal attempts.
