Cabana reaches 1,000 Points in home finale

SPRING ARBOR, Mich.Gracie Cabana scored 15 points and became the 24th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, but it was not enough as the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell to the University of Saint Francis 67-59 on Saturday in the McDonald Athletic Center.
 
The Cougars faced a double-digit deficit entering the fourth quarter, but Anne Marie Wright and Cabana led a furious comeback, closing the gap to five with less than a minute to play. However, the visitors would convert their free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cabana entered needing just six points to reach 1,000 career points. The Grass Lake, Michigan native buried her first shot of the afternoon, a 3-pointer to give SAU an early 5-3 lead. Then, midway through the second period, Cabana knocked down her second triple of the day to reach the milestone.
  • Saint Francis led most of the game, and held a 57-35 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
  • It was a different story in the fourth quarter as Spring Arbor started to mount a comeback effort. The Cougars went on a 10-0 run to begin the fourth, sparked by Anne Marie Wright and Daelynn Jackson.
  • Trailing 59-45 with less than four minutes, Cabana and Wright combined to hit four 3-pointers in a three-minute span to get SAU within five, 62-57. However, that was as close as the Cougars would get. Saint Francis would go 5-for-6 at the free throw line down the stretch to escape with the win.
  • Cabana finished with a team-high 15 points and made a season-best five 3-pointers while Wright added 14 points. Teona Feldpausch had eight points and 10 rebounds, and Grace Shoobridge stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight boards, five assists and three blocks.
  • Saint Francis' Cassidy Crawford led all players in scoring with 23 points.
