Baseball drops pair on Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University baseball concluded its four-game series against the University of Saint Francis on Saturday. The Cougars fell 8-4 in game one of the doubleheader and suffered a 5-4 setback in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saint Francis scored five times in the first inning and never looked back.
  • Trailing 8-1, Spring Arbor pushed three runs across in the eighth inning to get within four, but that was as close as the Cougars would get.
  • Vincent Herschberger went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Glenn Miller drove in two runs and Brennan Moran scored twice.
  • Ben Garcia and Dylan Trick combined to throw four scoreless innings of relief to give the offense a chance to get back in the game. Garcia was hitless over three frames while striking out five batters.
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning, Peyton Harding put Spring Arbor on top with a sacrifice fly.
  • However, Saint Francis answered with two runs in the home half of the seventh to walk-off with the game and series victory.
  • Miller, Jackson Kitchen and Zach Kraabel registered two hits each.
  • Sean Cassel got the start on the mound and worked 3.2 innings surrendering three runs on five hits while fanning five. Cade Kontny pitched three innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
 

UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will travel to Adrian, Michigan to take on Siena Heights University in non-conference action on Tuesday, Mar. 16. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
