INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Arbor University baseball team outslugged Marian University to take game one of Monday's Crossroads League doubleheader. The Cougars pounded out a season-high 16 hits on their way to a 12-11 victory over the Knights.
Spring Arbor looked to earn a series split after dropping both games on Saturday, but Marian used a six-run second inning to defeat SAU 9-4.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor led 2-1 after two innings of play, and pushed seven more runs across in the third and fourth innings to build a 9-5 lead. Jackson Kitchen had a key two-RBI hit in the third inning and Logan King delivered a two-RBI double in the fourth.
- After SAU increased its lead to 12-5, Marian closed the gap to one with a six-run sixth inning.
- The Cougar bullpen was able to shut down the Knights over the final three frames. Brant Mullins worked a scoreless seventh and eighth before Vincent Herschberger came on to close things out in the ninth.
- King went 3-for-4 with a home run. He also drove in four runs and scored twice. Kitchen also registered a three-hit game with two RBI's and two runs scored.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Marian pushed six runs across in the second inning to take control of the game.
- Spring Arbor clawed its way back, scoring two runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to get within two, 6-4.
- The Knights responded with three insurance runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
- Landon Raczkowski was 2-for-3 and blasted his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Glenn Miller also doubled and drove in two runs.
