Softball rallies late to beat Huntington

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and beat Huntington University 8-7 in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Huntington pushed one run across in the top of the first inning, but Spring Arbor answered in the home half. Emmalee Hamp delivered an RBI double, and would later score on a wild pitch to give SAU a 2-1 lead.
  • The Foresters retook the lead in the second inning with three more runs. However, the Cougars responded immediately. It was Hamp, once again, this time with a two-RBI double to even the score at 4-4.
  • Huntington kept SAU off the scoreboard the rest of the way, however, and would score in every inning, except the fourth to come away with a 15-4 win in game one.
  • Hamp was 2-for-2 with three RBI's. Brookelyn Stafford also collected two hits while Cora Millay scored twice.
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor jumped on top early in game two. Jade Nowe opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and Hannah Laurin followed with a two-RBI double to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage.
  • Huntington erased the deficit with five runs in the third inning, but SAU pulled even with two of its own in the fourth.
  • The Cougars trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but capitalized on three HU errors to push three runs across and grab an 8-6 lead.
  • The Foresters did not go away easily. The visitors had the tying run on second base with nobody out, but Laurin would retire the next three batters in order to slam the door shut.
  • Jessie Panchaud was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Three other Cougars had two hits, including Laurin, who finished with three RBI's.

Spring Arbor travels to Marion, Indiana on Saturday, Mar. 27 to take on No. 11 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University.
