GOSHEN, Ind. – Behind strong performances by
Emmalee Hamp in the circle and
Jade Nowe at the plate, the Spring Arbor University softball team defeated Goshen College 7-1 in game one on Tuesday.
In game two of the scheduled doubleheader, the Cougars led 18-12 in the top of the seventh inning before the game was suspended due to darkness. The teams will resume play when Goshen visits SAU on Saturday, Apr. 24.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor led 2-1 after three innings, but would score three times over the next two innings to take control of the game. Hamp ripped a two-RBI double in the fourth inning and Nowe opened the fifth with a solo shot to put SAU on top 5-1.
- The Cougars added two more runs in the seventh inning. Hamp scored on a bunt base hit by Nowe and, two batters later, Nowe crossed the plate on a hit from Abbey Burdgick.
- Nowe went 4-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored while Hamp collected three hits, two RBI's and two runs scored.
- In addition to her performance at the plate, Hamp was also outstanding in the circle. The freshman pitcher allowed only one run on two hits over seven innings pitched while striking out a season-high nine batters.
