MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Spring Arbor University baseball team began its conference season by taking one of two against Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday afternoon. The Cougars fell in Game 1 by a final of 10-3 before picking up their second win of the season in Game 2 by a final of 2-1.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Mount Vernon Nazarene struck first and scored seven runs in the first four innings.
- In the top of the sixth, Jackson Kitchen put SAU on the board with an RBI-single to score Ben Redfield, which made it 7-1.
- MVNU added to its lead in the sixth, scoring two in the inning.
- In the top of the seventh, Peyton Harding hit an RBI-double scoring Josiah Kitchen to make it 9-2.
- After MVNU pushed a run across in the eighth, Redfield drove in Zach Kraabel with an RBI-ground out in the ninth.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior right-hander Gavin Harris made his first start of the season in Game 2. Harris settled in right away, tossing four straight scoreless innings.
- In the top of the third, Vincent Herschberger gave SAU a 1-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly to score freshman Brennan Moran. Then, in the fourth, Brandon Haynes delivered with an RBI-single to score Nick Carroll, giving SAU a 2-0 lead.
- MVNU made it 2-1 in the fifth. After plating their first run, the home team still had runners on first and second with no outs, but Jon Williams entered out of the pen and escaped the jam with no further damage.
- Harris picked up the win after tossing four innings with one hit, one earned run, and four strikeouts. Vincent Herschberger earned his second save of the season.
