Baseball takes two from MVNU in home opener

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team swept a home-opening doubleheader Monday, winning 6-2 and 5-1 over Crossroads League foe Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nick Carroll broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the sixth inning. The Cougars would tack on three more runs in the seventh to pull away.
  • Carroll went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI's. Brennan Moran also picked up a pair of hits while Jackson Kitchen scored twice.
  • Cade Kontny earned the win on the mound. Kontny pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • An RBI hit by Landon Raczkowski gave Spring Arbor a 1-0 lead after one inning, and the Cougars added two more runs in the third. Brant Mast and Vincent Herschberger scored on a single by Brandon Haynes.
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene got one run back in the fourth, but SAU scored two more times in the sixth before the game was called due to darkness.
  • Kitchen was 2-for-2 with two runs scored whie Raczkowski also had two hits.
  • Sean Cassel picked up the win on the mound after working 4.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven. Kontny earned the save.

Spring Arbor will visit Siena Heights University on Wednesday, Mar. 10. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
