Huntington slips past Softball

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Huntington University on Tuesday. The Cougars were on the wrong end of a 1-0 pitchers' duel in game one before dropping game two 8-5.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The reigning Crossroads League Pitcher of the Week Emmalee Hamp was terrific in the circle once again. The freshman hurler tossed five straight scoreless frames before Huntington was able to push a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • The Cougars put a pair of runners on in the seventh inning, but were unable to score.
  • Hamp pitched all six innings giving up only one run on four hits while striking out five batters.
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor erupted for four runs in the second inning – all with two outs – to grab the early lead. Hannah Laurin scored on a base hit by Abbie Funk. Two batters later, Cora Millay singled to bring in Chloe Gignac, and Hamp followed with a two-RBI double.
  • Huntington posted a six-spot in the fourth inning to take the lead. The Foresters would add single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Sarah Matlock went 3-for-4 at the plate while Hamp went 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Millay also collected a pair of hits.
 

UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will look to bounce back when it hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday, Apr. 14. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 3 p.m.
