SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team picked up a 5-1 win over No. 10 ranked Indiana Wesleyan on Monday afternoon.

Emmalee Hamp was lights out in the circle, limiting one of the top offensive teams in the country to just one run while striking out 10 batters. Hamp also got the job done at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI's and a three-run home run.

The Wildcats avoided the sweep picking up a 9-0 win over the Cougars in game two of the doubleheader.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • After two scoreless frames, Hamp broke the deadlock with a three-run bomb in the bottom of the third inning. Hamp smashed the 3-0 offering from IWU's Alyssa Wagner, the reigning Crossroads League Pitcher of the Week, over the right field fence to put the Cougars on top.
  • Indiana Wesleyan took advantage of wild pitch to plate a run in the fifth inning, but SAU answered with two more in the home half of the frame. Abbey Burdgick led off the inning with a solo shot to straight-away center field – the first big fly of her career. Later in the inning, Hamp doubled to bring home Jessie Panchaud and extend the lead to 5-1.
  • That was more than enough support for Hamp, who completely shut down on the most explosive offensive teams in the country. The freshman pitcher surrendered only one run on five hits while fanning 10 batters. With her 10 strikeouts today, Hamp reached 100 K's on the campaign becoming the first SAU pitcher to strikeout 100 batters in a season since 2010.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Indiana Wesleyan bounced back in game two of the doubleheader. The Wildcats pushed five runs across in the third inning and never looked back.
  • Spring Arbor was unable to get the bats going against IWU's Mckenzey Ridge, who tossed a no-hitter.
  • Kelsey Sturgeon pitched 2.2 innings giving up five runs, but only one earned run. Elena Jones worked the final 3.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
