SPRING ARBOR, Mich. –
Nick Carroll belted three home runs in the opener and finished with five RBI's, but it was not enough as Bethel University held on to defeat the Spring Arbor University 17-13. The Cougars bounced back in the nightcap, however, rallying from a late two-run deficit to win 4-3 and even the series.

- The Cougars took a 5-0 lead after three innings, but the Pilots responded with eight unanswered runs over the next three frames to grab an 8-5 advantage.
- Bethel increased its lead to 10-5 after scoring two more runs in the top of the eighth, but SAU battled back. In the bottom half of the eighth, Vincent Herschberger hit a three-run home run and Carroll followed with a solo shot to get the Cougars within one, 10-9. Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Brant Mast led off with a double and would come around to score the game-tying run on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Haynes.
- Bethel struck for seven runs in the top of the 10th inning to retake the lead, but the Cougars refused to go down without a fight. The first two batters reached base for SAU in the bottom of the inning and Carroll smashed his third big fly of the afternoon – a three-run shot – to get Spring Arbor within four, 17-13. The Cougars would continue to threaten, putting runners on second and third with only one out, but the Pilots escaped the jam to hang on for the win.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- After the slugfest in the opener, game two of the twinbill featured a pitchers' duel between Gavin Harris and Bethel's Sullivan Swingley.
- Harris surrendered one run to the Pilots in the first inning before shutting the visitors out over the next four frames. Meanwhile, Swingley gave up a run in the second inning – the only run he allowed through the first five innings.
- With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning, Bethel's Eli MacDonald hit a two-run home run to give the Pilots a 3-1 lead.
- The Cougars got some two-out magic in the home half of the sixth. Haynes started the rally with a base hit to centerfield. The inning was extended by a Pilot error, moving runners to second and third. Following an intentional walk to load the bases, Kitchen delivered what would prove to be the game-winning hit, a bases clearing double to put SAU in front 4-3.
- Harris pitched 5.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five batters. Brant Mullins earned the win on the mound and Vincent Herschberger picked up his NAIA-best ninth save of the season.
