Hamp fires complete game shutout in win over Lourdes

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Sophomore pitcher Emmalee Hamp fired a three-hit, complete game shutout to lead Spring Arbor University to a 2-0 win over Lourdes University at THE Spring Games on Thursday morning.
 
In their second game of the day, the Cougars fell to Dordt University 5-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run by Maddie Gillett. Later in the inning, a single by Jade Nowe allowed Hamp to cross the plate to give SAU a 2-0 lead.
  • That would be all the run support Hamp needed. The sophomore hurler blanked the Gray Wolves over seven innings giving up only three hits while striking out seven batters.
  • Gillett finished 2-for-2 at the plate while Nowe went 2-for-3.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jessie Panchaud drove in two runs with a double in the second inning.
  • The Cougars made it 3-0 in the fifth inning following an RBI double by Maddy Thrush.
  • Dordt battled back, however, plating four runs in the bottom of the fifth before adding another run in the sixth.
  • Spring Arbor brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but was unable to score.
  • Elena Jones allowed four runs on six hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Kelsey Sturgeon surrendered one run on four hits in 1.2 innings of relief.
