MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Spring Arbor University softball team dropped both games in its Crossroads League opener against Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday.
Mount Vernon Nazarene won game one 9-1 before taking game two 6-2.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Mount Vernon Nazarene held a slim 2-1 lead after three innings, but broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.
- Maddie Gillett drove in SAU's only run of the game while Jessie Panchaud and Emmalee Hamp also collected a hit.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Mount Vernon Nazarene scored in five of the first six innings.
- Spring Arbor scored single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
- Gillett, Sarah Matlock and Jade Nowe posted two hits apiece.
- MacKenzie Collins suffered the loss in the circle. Collins surrendered four runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings of work. Kelsey Sturgeon gave up two unearned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.
