Baseball rallies to win series opener at Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team used a seven-run eighth inning to rally back and defeat Huntington University 10-6 in its series opener against the Foresters on Friday.
 
Huntington avoided the doubleheader sweep. The Foresters pushed two runs across in the sixth inning to steal game two from SAU 4-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Huntington held a 6-2 lead after five innings of play.
  • Spring Arbor got one run back in the sixth inning when Peyton Harding blasted a solo home run.
  • The Cougars erupted for seven runs in the eighth – highlighted by a Brant Mast a grand slam – to take the lead.
  • Harding finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate while Brandon Haynes also picked up three hits. Bryce Richey drove in three runs and Jake Spedoske and Brennan Moran each scored twice.
  • Cade Kontny earned the win after pitching four scoreless innings of relief. Kontny allowed just three hits while striking out four batters.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Huntington led 2-0 early, but Landon Raczkowski erased the deficit with his two-run home run in the fourth inning.
  • An inning laster, the Cougars took a 3-2 lead when Mast scored on a sacrifice fly by Spedoske.
  • The Foresters pulled ahead with two runs in the sixth and held on to split the doubleheader.
  • Hunter Nielsen pitched four innings allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Brant Mullins suffered the loss after giving up two unearned runs in two innings of relief.
