SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team hosted Goshen College in its home opener on Tuesday. The Cougars won game one, 4-1, and nearly rallied to win game two, but their late-inning comeback came up short, falling 8-7.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor struck first with a solo home run by Emmalee Hamp in the bottom of the first inning.
- An RBI double by Jade Nowe in the fourth inning extended SAU's lead to 2-0 before the Cougars tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Maddie Gillett.
- Hamp and Gillett picked up two hits each to pace the SAU offense.
- Hamp also earned the win in the circle allowing only one run over seven innings pitched with seven strikeouts.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor trailed 8-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
- The Cougars battled back, cutting the deficit to one followed a three-run homer by Nowe, but that was as close as they would get.
- Jessie Panchaud was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Gillett picked up two more RBI's.
- MacKenzie Collins suffered the loss giving up seven runs over 3.2 innings pitched. Elena Jones gave up only run in 3.1 innings of relief.
