SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – After dropping game one of a Crossroads League doubleheader against Mount Vernon Nazarene University, the Spring Arbor University softball team bounced back with a mercy-ruled 10-0 victory in the nightcap, highlighted by a
Maddie Gillett walk-off grand slam.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor fell behind 3-0 early, but got a run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Jade Nowe.
- Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, SAU plated two runs to cut the deficit to one. Gillett doubled to left to bring in Jessie Panchaud, and Nowe followed with a double of her own off the wall allowing Gillett to cross the plate.
- The visitors added two big insurance runs in the seventh and held on to take game one of the doubleheader.
- Gillett, Nowe and Emmalee Hamp collected two hits apiece while Nowe finished with two RBI's.
- Elena Jones pitched a complete game and allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out five batters.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- After two scoreless innings, Maddy Thrush broke the deadlock with a clutch two-out, three-RBI double in the bottom of the third.
- The Cougars added three more runs an inning later. Gillett drove in two with a bases loaded single, and Nowe followed with an RBI single.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the first three batters reached base safely, setting the stage for Gillett's heroics as the junior from Howell, Michigan drove the first pitch she saw over the left field wall to clear the bases and bring the eight-run mercy rule into effect.
- Gillett was 3-for-4 with six RBI's. Hamp, Nowe and Sarah Matlock recorded two hits each.
- Hamp was outstanding in the circle turning in a complete game shutout while allowing only one hit and fanning four.
