SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team gave No. 8 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University all it could handle Monday afternoon.
Spring Arbor erased a five-run deficit in game one before two late-inning runs gave IWU a 7-5 win. Game two was suspended due to darkness with the Cougars and Wildcats tied 5-5 after 10 innings of play.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- After two scoreless frames to start the game, Indiana Wesleyan erupted for five runs in the third inning – three coming on a three-run home run by one of the league's top home run hitters, Miranda Wehrle.
- The Cougars did not back down though, pushing five runs of their own across – highlighted by a Maddy Thrush two-RBI double – in the fifth inning to tie the score.
- The Wildcats broke the tie in the sixth inning as IWU's Julianne Bell led off the frame with a solo home run. The visitors would tack on an insurance run in the seventh to extend their lead to 7-5.
- Spring Arbor put runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh, but the Wildcats were able to escape the jam with no damage done.
- Allie Funk went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Elaina Walker and Maddie Gillett finished with two hits apiece.
- Elena Jones allowed five runs on four hits over 2.2 innings pitched. MacKenzie Collins suffered the loss, but turned in 4.1 innings of outstanding relief surrendering only one earned run.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- A four-run third inning gave Spring Arbor a 5-2 lead. Walker delivered a two-RBI single to start the scoring. Gillett followed with a double to bring home Walker, and Jade Nowe capped the frame with a single to drive in Gillett.
- Indiana Wesleyan got a run back in the fourth inning, but the Cougars carried a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning.
- Emmalee Hamp retired the first two Wildcats to start the seventh, but a bloop single brought the tying run to the plate and IWU's Julianne Bell was able to capitalize with a two-run home run to knot the score, 5-5.
- After a scoreless eighth, ninth and 10th inning, the game was halted due to darkness.
- Nowe had three hits to lead SAU while Gillett recorded two with two RBI's.
- Hamp pitched all 10 innings and surrendered five runs while striking out six.
