Men's Basketball falls to Cornerstone in season-opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team dropped its season-opener to Cornerstone University 78-62 on Friday night at the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge, hosted by Indiana Tech.
 
Gabe Newhof had 22 points while Kevyn Robertson registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor led 24-20 with five minutes to go in the first half, but Cornerstone would end the period on a 15-2 run and take a 35-26 advantage into the intermission.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth most of the second half until another key scoring run late in the stanza increased the Golden Eagles' lead to double-digits.
  • Newhof was the leading scorer for Spring Arbor with 22 points. Robertson followed with 11 points while also adding 10 rebounds. Trey Cottingham also finished in double figures with 10 points.
  • Spring Arbor was held to 37 percent shooting while Cornerstone connected on 53 percent of its field goal attempts, including going 12-of-24 from behind the arc.
