MOUNT VERNON, OH. – The Spring Arbor softball team traveled to take on the nationally ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars, and ended up splitting the series versus a very tough opponent.
Mount Vernon sat near the top of the conference standings when Spring Arbor stole the opening game following a 7th inning rally.
The Cougars found themselves trailing 4-3 when they grabbed two runs thanks to RBI-hits from
Elaina Walker and
Matajia Cerroni.
Emmalee Hamp finished her complete game by securing three quick outs, and the Cougars secured an impressive win, 5-4.
Game two was a different story, however, as Mount Vernon showed why they were receiving votes in the national polls. They wasted no time building a 7-0 advantage by the second inning.
The Cougars did their best to match this firepower, as they scored three runs in the third, but it would not be enough to build a rally, as Mount Vernon would add to their lead and push the game out of reach. Spring Arbor lost game two, 7-16.
