Indianapolis – The Spring Arbor softball team traveled to Indianapolis to face the #12 ranked Marian Knights, and snapped what was a 27-game win streak for the Knights.
Both teams were led by their aces on the mound, with each pitching a gem of a game to keep the opposing offense stifled.
Emmalee Hamp was on the mound for Spring Arbor, and pitched a complete game shutout only allowing five hits and striking out four batters in the process. This was the first time the Knights' offense had been held scoreless all year, and added another huge win to Hamp's already impressive Junior campaign.
The Cougars led 1-0 in the sixth inning when
Sarah Tourney stepped to the plate to add an insurance run for the Cougars, smacking a solo homerun to make it a 2-0 ballgame and all but secure the massive win for the Cougars.
The Knights would manage to get several runners on the base path in the bottom of the seventh, but a double-play to end the game allowed the Cougars to take game 1, 2-0.
In game two, The Cougars offense again struggled to handle the Knights pitching, but this time did not have the same dominant backing from their own pitching staff as in the first game.
Marian managed to double the Cougars in hits, and raced out to an early 2-0 lead after a 2 RBI double. The Cougars struggled to respond, and the Knights quickly added two more runs to extend their lead. The Cougars would remain scoreless for the remainder of the game, and lose by a final score of 0-4.
