Spring Arbor, MI. – The Spring Arbor Cougars baseball team welcomed the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars to town this past weekend, and managed to earn a split in two hard fought battles at Hank Burbridge field.
In game one, it took 11 innings for a team to claim victory, with the teams taking a 2-2 tie well past the allotted innings. In the end, it was Mount Vernon who broke the tie by logging two runs in the 11th to down Spring Arbor, 4-2.
In game two, the Cougars bats came alive early. They led 7-0 by the third inning and navigated a Mount Vernon rally that saw their lead dwindle to three at one point. The Cougars hung on however, winning by a score of 10-7.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Josh Murphy put the Cougars in a spot for victory, pitching a scoreless five innings and striking out five before being replaced.
- Bryce Richey led the mostly stagnant Cougar offense, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Brock Mullins also produced an RBI for Spring Arbor.
- Spring Arbor only managed to produce five hits to Mount Vernon's 13, which turned out to be a driving force behind the loss.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Jared Plane earned the win on the mound in 4.1 innings of action. He is now 8-4 on the season.
- Numerous Cougars produced at the plate, but none better than junior Brennan Moran. Moran logged a monster stat line by going 3-for-4 with a season-high 5 RBIs in the win.
- Also producing was Braedon Leathed, who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Evan Lorey went 2-for-4.
