Baseball falters twice in conclusion versus MVNU

Spring Arbor, MI. – The Spring Arbor baseball team resumed action to conclude their series with Mount Vernon Nazarene, playing a double header for their fourth game in two days versus the visiting Cougars.

Game one proved to be a frustrating one for Spring Arbor, as they watched Mount Vernon put up 20 runs on them despite matching them in hits. The Cougars managed to hit decently and score nine runs of their own, but they could not keep up with the consistency of the visiting team's offense. They lost 9-20.

In game two, The Cougars offense sat idle as they watched Mount Vernon bookend their runs in the first and seventh inning to lose by a score of 0-2.

 GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

- Despite the loss, a trio of Cougars posted efficient trips at the plate, with Jake Spedoske going 4-for-5, Bryce Richey going 2-for-5 with 2 EBIs and Evan Lorey going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI. 

- Incredibly enough, the Cougars matched Mount Vernon in the hit department, with each team logging 17 hits. 

- The 20 runs are the most the Cougars have allowed this season.


GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

- Sean Cassel led the Cougars on the mound well, pitching six innings and striking out five batters despite the loss. 

- Jake Spedoske and Bryce Richey led an otherwise stagnant Cougar offense, as each went 2-for-4 at the plate. 

- The 0-2 loss is the first time the Cougars have been held scoreless all season, with it taking 26 games to reach this mark.
