SPRING ARBOR, MI – Volleyball has had to fight all season, and Wednesday night, they faced another battle with the Foresters from Huntington. The two squads were deadlocked in the standings at 5
th place in the Crossroads, and this matchup could prove to be critical for future conference tournament positioning.
In set one, the Foresters came storming out of the gates to a 9-0 lead. However, the Cougars came roaring right back with a 8-0 run of their own to trim the deficit to one. The teams were back and forth for a little bit, eventually coming to a deadlock at 14 all after a 5-0 run led by a pair of
Julia Mitchell kills, a block from Mitchell and
Kelsie Lilly, and a kill from
Isabelle Kirkendall. From there however, it was almost all Huntington, as they finished out on a 11-5 run, and took the set 25-19.
In set two, the teams traded the lead five times, but the Foresters had the last laugh, getting the lead back and winning the set 25-23 after losing the lead late, as a Cougar 5-0 run gave them a 23-22 advantage that they could not hold.
Set three was controlled by Huntington pretty much the whole way. The Cougars made it interesting late, trimming a 10 point deficit to 4, with a 8-2 run, but it wasn't enough. The Foresters staved off that rally, and took the set 25-20 to win the match, 3-0.
