SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team cruised to a 96-60 victory over Cleary University in its home opener on Tuesday night inside the McDonald Athletic Center.
Alana Nelson recorded her first double-double of the season with 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way.
In total 12 different Cougars found the scoring column. In addition to Nelson,
Emma Smieska and
Ava Boike finished in double digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

GAME NOTES
- The teams went back-and-forth in the first quarter. The score was tied 14-14 at the 2:21 mark, but Spring Arbor would end the period on a 9-4 run and never look back.
- The Cougars outscored Cleary 23-12 in the second quarter to take a 16-point lead into halftime before putting the game out of reach in the third quarter.
- Alana Nelson led the way for SAU with 31 points while also securing 11 rebounds to register her first double-double of the season.
- Emma Smieska finished with 13 points, seven assists and seven steals while Ava Boike added 12 points and four steals. Megan Zeitz chipped in nine points and grabbed six rebounds.
- Spring Arbor shot 55 percent from the floor while holding Cleary to 42 percent shooting. The Cougars forced the visitors into 28 turnovers and converted those takeaways into 36 points. SAU also dominated inside, outscoring Cleary 68-20 in the paint.
