SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring arbor University women's basketball team opened conference play with a 78-67 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday night.
 
Alana Nelson recorded a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way. Emma Smieska followed with 16 points while Megan Zeitz added 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

GAME NOTES

• It was a back-and-forth game through the first three quarters. The score was tied 50-50 before Alana Nelson hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the third period, and the Cougars would never trail again.
• Spring Arbor scored nine straight points to begin the fourth quarter to open up a double-digit lead.
• Mount Vernon Nazarene got within six in the final minute, but SAU clinched the game at the free throw line down the stretch.
