MOUNT VERNON, OH – Following a massive comeback win over Bethel on Wednesday night, the Spring Arbor volleyball team looked to carry that momentum into their matchup with 16
th ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Cougars took their fellow Cougars to five sets earlier this year, and looked to get over the hump this go round.
Unfortunately, Mount Vernon had different ideas, as in set one, they took control early, and coasted to a 25-15 set win.
Set two saw Spring Arbor show some life, jumping out to a 6-0 lead courtesy of three
Isabelle Kirkendall kills, a pair of
Keely Hinzman kills, as well as a kill from
Kendall Bollenbacher. Unfortunately, that lead would evaporate quickly, as Mount Vernon pulled within one with a 5-0 run of their own. The teams would trade the lead a few more times throughout the set before Mount Vernon grabbed the lead at 17-16, and wouldn't relinquish it, getting a 25-19 set win.
Mount Vernon stayed hot after their comeback in the previous set, and a quick 6-1 lead spelled disaster for Spring Arbor, as they could not recover. Mount Vernon would go on to win the set and the match by another 25-15 margin.
