Softball splits first day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split the first two games of its Florida trip on Friday morning.

The Cougars fell 1-0 in extra innings to Point Park University in the opener, but bounced back with a 2-0 shutout victory over Ohio Christian University in the second game.

SCORE:
Spring Arbor 0, Point Park 1
LOCATION: Clermont, Fla. | Legends Field

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Point Park was able to slip past Spring Arbor in a pitcher's duel in the first game of the day.
  • Senior pitcher Emmalee Hamp carried a shutout through seven innings, but with the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth inning, the Pioneers were able to advance the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt, and that runner would eventually score the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
  • The Cougars had four hits in the game, including two by Lexi Cain.
  • Hamp pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just one run on one hit while striking out 10 batters.

  • SAU added another run in the fifth inning when Tiffany Keller scored on a groundout by Grace Lentz.
