CLERMONT, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split the first two games of its Florida trip on Friday morning.
The Cougars fell 1-0 in extra innings to Point Park University in the opener, but bounced back with a 2-0 shutout victory over Ohio Christian University in the second game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Point Park was able to slip past Spring Arbor in a pitcher's duel in the first game of the day.
- Senior pitcher Emmalee Hamp carried a shutout through seven innings, but with the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth inning, the Pioneers were able to advance the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt, and that runner would eventually score the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
- The Cougars had four hits in the game, including two by Lexi Cain.
- Hamp pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just one run on one hit while striking out 10 batters.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor and Ohio Christian were scoreless after three innings of play, but the Cougars were able to push one run across in the fourth.
- SAU added another run in the fifth inning when Tiffany Keller scored on a groundout by Grace Lentz.
- That was more than enough run support for Elena Jones, who worked a scoreless seven innings in the circle and struck out nine.
