Softball wins two on day 2 in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday in Clermont, defeating Judson University 9-1 and Ohio Christian University 7-0.
 
The wins improve the Cougars to 5-2 on the season, and bring head coach Deb Thompson within two of reaching the 900 career wins milestone.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor scored in every inning, including three runs in the fifth, which was highlighted by an RBI triple by Emmalee Hamp.
  • The Cougars pounded out 13 hits in the game. Hamp went 3-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored. Summer Ambler, Lexi Cain and Tiffany Keller also had multiple hits.
  • Elena Jones was outstanding in the circle. The senior pitcher allowed just one run over five innings of work giving up only two hits and striking out two. Tammy Craven added a perfect inning of relief.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor got the offense going early again in the second game of the day, scoring three runs in the first innings. Ambler had a two-RBI double and Cain followed with an RBI single.
  • That was more than enough run support for Hamp, who was lights out in the circle. The senior pitcher blanked Ohio Christian over six innings, allowing just four hits and fanning seven.
  • Elaina Walker finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's. Grace Lentz had two hits and three runs scored while Hamp, Ambler, and Cain also had two hits apiece.  
 
 
UP NEXT
The Cougars are off until Tuesday, Mar. 5 when they take on Dordt University at 4:15 p.m. and Bellevue University at 6:15 p.m.
