Softball drops two to No. 7 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Arbor University softball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday after suffering a pair of losses to No. 7 ranked Marian University. The Cougars fell 8-0 in game one of the doubleheader and 7-4 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Marian scored in every inning except the first, including a four-spot in the third inning.
  • The Spring Arbor offense was limited to three hits. Emmalee Hamp collected two of the three hits, including a double. Elaina Walker also had a hit going 1-for-2 at the plate.
  • Elena Jones suffered the loss in the circle allowing five runs on seven hits over three innings of work. Tammy Craven pitched the last two frames and gave up three runs on six hits.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor jumped out on top in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Walker scored on a base hit by Summer Ambler, and Ambler later came around to score to put SAU up 2-0.
  • Walker scored again in the third inning on a groundout by Ambler to put the Cougars ahead 3-1.
  • Marian pushed two runs across in the bottom of the third to tie the game, and added four more in the fourth to take the lead.
  • Spring Arbor rallied in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs. However, the Cougars were only able to plate one run as the Knights held on to complete the doubleheader sweep.
  • Ambler and Grace Lentz picked up three hits each while Ambler finished with three RBIs.
  • Hamp pitched six innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits while striking out three batters.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor returns home to host Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Monday, Mar. 25 at 3 p.m. The Cougars will also play Huntington University at home on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m.
