Baseball walks off game two to earn split with No. 9 Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich.Jake Zeeb delivered a walk-off two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Spring Arbor University a dramatic 9-8 win over No. 9 ranked Taylor University in game two of Thursday's doubleheader at Hank Burbridge Field.
 
The walk-off win helped the Cougars split the first two games of the series after Taylor defeated SAU 9-3 in the opener.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Taylor scored seven runs over the first three innings to take control of the game early.
  • Spring Arbor cut into the deficit with a run in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Ben Redfield, and added two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI hit by Bryce Richey.
  • The Trojans added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh en route to winning the series opener.
  • Redfield went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Richey and Ryan Gonzalez finished with two hits apiece.
  • Kyler Hinken surrendered seven runs on 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work while also striking out seven batters. Blake Worst pitched two innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, Spring Arbor responded with six runs in the home half of the frame while hitting three home runs. Aiden Brunin led things off with a solo shot and, after a single by Redfield, Braydon Gregory followed with a two-run bomb. Connor Dee capped the inning with his first collegiate homer – a three-run shot – giving the Cougars a 6-3 lead.
  • The Trojans answered immediately, however, with two runs in the second inning and two more in the third to grab a 7-6 advantage.
  • Taylor tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning to extend its lead to 8-6.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Aiden Brunin and Richey reached base with one out when Gregory doubled off the left field wall to score Brunin. After an intentional walk to Brennan Moran to load the bases, Zeeb delivered the game-winning hit, a two-RBI single to score Richey and Eli DeVisser, who was pinch-running for Gregory.
  • Ryan Ruhlman was outstanding out of the bullpen, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings of relief to keep the Cougars within striking distance. Jack Will picked up the win on the mound.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor and Taylor will conclude the four-game series with a doubleheader on Monday, Mar. 11 starting at 3 p.m. from Hank Burbridge Field.
