Softball closes Spring trip with split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team wrapped up its time at The Spring Games in Florida by splitting a pair of games on Friday. The Cougars defeated Judson University 9-1 before falling to Dordt University 4-3 in eight innings.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor scored nine runs over the first three innings, including five in the third.
  • Lexi Cain went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs while Emmalee Hamp and Payton Grange also collected two hits each.
  • Elena Jones pitched four shutout innings while holding Judson hit-less and striking out two on her way to picking up the win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dordt did most of its damage in the first inning, plating three runs to grab an early lead.
  • Spring Arbor battled back, scoring one in the fourth on a Tammy Craven RBI double before tying the game at 3-3 on a two-RBI single by Grace Lentz in the fifth inning.
  • After a scoreless sixth and seventh, the game went into extra innings where Dordt was able to push a run across in the eighth to walk-off with the victory.
  • Hamp had two more hits while Lentz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Hamp pitched 7.1 innings giving up two earned runs on three hits while striking out 11 batters.
