Softball drops two at MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Spring Arbor University softball team fell twice on the road against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday. After suffering a shutout in the first game, 4-0, the Cougars battled back in the second game, but came up one run short, falling 4-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor was held to three hits in the opener with Maddy Thrush, Brooke Meeker, and Emmalee Hamp each collecting one.
  • Hamp allowed four runs on eight hits while recording six strikeouts.


GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor came out strong in the second game bringing in two runs in the first inning. Summer Ambler and Brooke Meeker delivered RBI hits to score the first two runs of the game.
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the score, and took the lead with two more runs in the second.
  • In the seventh inning, the Cougars capitalized on an MVNU error to cut the deficit to one, but that was as close as they would get after stranding the tying run on base.
  • Hamp had three of SAU's eight hits while also scoring twice. Grace Lentz went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.
  • Elena Jones surrendered four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Bailey Bartrum pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit.
