SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team clinched its third straight Crossroads League after picking up a pair of victories over Bethel University on Saturday at Hank Burbridge Field.
The Cougars defeated the Pilots 8-3 in game one before walking off with a 5-4 win in extra innings in game two.
Prior to the game, SAU held a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated Hank Burbridge Field. The Cougars recognized the 1981 baseball team between games and honored them with a ring ceremony as the first team in program history to reach the NAIA World Series.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- With the score tied 1-1 in the third, Bryce Richey gave Spring Arbor the lead for good with a two-run home run.
- Bethel got within one, 4-3, in the sixth, but SAU plated four runs in the home half of the inning to put the game out of reach. Ben Redfield drove in a pair with a double and Richey followed with a two-RBI single.
- Richey finished 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and two runs scored. Redfield had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
- John Hojnowski earned the win on the mound. The freshman pitcher allowed two earned runs over six innings of work. Ryan Ruhlman picked up his third save of the season with three innings of scoreless relief.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Bethel led 3-1 through four innings, but Spring Arbor scored twice in the fifth to tie the score. Aiden Brunin singled to bring home Eli DeVisser and, two batters later, Richey drove in Brunin.
- The score remained tied after seven, sending the game into extra innings.
- After a scoreless eighth, the Pilots capitalized on an SAU error to plate a run in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, with runners on the corners, Redfield dropped down a perfect bunt to bring home the tying run. Two batters later – with the bases loaded – freshman Connor Dee delivered the game-winning hit, a single through the left side to complete the comeback.
- Brunin and Richey collected two hits apiece while Brunin scored twice.
- Trammell Lindstrom secured his first win of the season. The junior pitcher was sensational out of the bullpen, allowing only one run on two hits over five innings of relief while striking out six.

Spring Arbor will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season with a four-game series against Indiana Wesleyan University at home on Apr. 25-26.
