SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team took on one of the top teams in the Crossroads League on Wednesday when it welcomed Indiana Wesleyan University to the Cougar Softball Field.
The Cougars battled the No. 17 nationally ranked Wildcats close, but ultimately dropped both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 6-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Elena Jones kept the high-powered Indiana Wesleyan offense off the scoreboard through the first two innings, but the Wildcats were able to breakthrough in the third with back-to-back RBI doubles.
- Spring Arbor answered in the home half of the third when Lexi Cain crossed the plate on a base hit by Emmalee Hamp.
- IWU added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to widen the margin to 3-1.
- The Cougars got a leadoff double by Summer Ambler in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to cash in on the opportunity.
- The Spring Arbor offense finished with five hits.
- Jones pitched seven outstanding innings, holding one of the nation's top offensive teams to three runs on four hits while striking out three.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The two teams combined for five runs in the first inning of game two. Indiana Wesleyan plated three runs in its half of the inning before the Cougars responded with two of their own.
- The Wildcats stretched their lead to three, 5-2, after scoring two runs in the third inning.
- Spring Arbor threatened in the seventh with back-to-back hits by Tiffany Keller and Lexi Cain to start the inning. However, IWU was able to limit the damage to just one run and escape with the win.
- The Cougars were held to five hits. Grace Lentz and Maddy Thrush finished with one RBI each.
- Hamp suffered the loss in the circle after surrendering six runs on nine hits and recording five strikeouts.

Spring Arbor wraps up the regular season at home against Goshen College on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Cougars, who will recognize seniors
