Baseball sweeps fall doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Spring Arbor University baseball team earned two wins over the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Friday night in Fall Ball action. The Cougars prevailed 6-5 in game one and cruised to a 15-6 victory in game two in a pair of seven-inning games.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor capitalized on three Michigan-Dearborn errors in the bottom of the second inning to plate five runs.
  • The visitors answered in the top of the third inning. This time it was the Wolverines taking advantage of a defensive miscue. The inning was extended following a two-out error that allowed two runs to score. The next batter hit a two-run home run to pull Michigan-Dearborn within one, 5-4.
  • Michigan-Dearborn tied the game with a run in the sixth inning, but the Cougars responded with a run in the home half of the inning to retake the lead, 6-5, and Jack Will slammed the door shut in the seventh to earn the save.
  • Brenden Phillips went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Landon Raczkowski had two RBIs. Jaeden Rodriguez doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.
  • John Hojnowski got the win on the mound. The sophomore pitcher worked 6.0 innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out five.



GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Spring Arbor bats exploded for 14 runs in the first three innings on the way to a 15-6 win.
  • Connor Dee had three hits and five RBIs while Aiden Brunin and Rodriguez had two hits and three runs scored each. 
  • Kyler Hinken had a no-hitter through four innings before the Wolverines were able to scratch an unearned run across in the fifth. The sophomore hurler finished allowing only the one unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Spring Arbor and Michigan-Dearborn will play two more games at Hank Burbridge Field on tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
