SPRING ARBOR, MI. – Coming off of a big road win at Mount Vernon to halt a 3-game skid, the Spring Arbor men's basketball team returned home for another Crossroads League matchup with Marian.
The first half was tightly contested, defensive battle, with buckets hard to come by for each squad. Marian had control early, with their lead reaching 8 points at 16-8, with about 9 minutes to go, but Spring Arbor would respond with a 22-9 run to finish out the half and take a 30-25 lead going into the break.
Gabe Newhof led the Cougars with 11 points in the stanza, while
Travis Grayson added 7 points, and
Aden Zank had 6 points on two threes late in the half.
The second half began similarly to the first half, as the two teams were deadlocked at 38 all at the first media timeout. However, from that point on, Marian caught fire, surging ahead of the Cougars, and stretching their lead to 15 points with 4 minutes to go, eventually winning the contest by a 9-point margin, 80-71. Marian's Aidan Franks and Noah Lovan led the Knights in their comeback victory, combining for 35 of the Knights 55 points in the second half, with Franks pouring in 20 points and Lovan adding 15 points. Newhof once again led the Cougars in scoring for the half with 13 points, with
Travis Grayson following closely behind with 12 points.
