GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season on Friday evening, falling 87-74 to No. 21 Indiana Tech in the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge, hosted by Cornerstone University.
The Cougars hung tough early, trailing just 41-35 at halftime behind sharp outside shooting – hitting seven 3-pointers – and strong rebounding. However, a second-half surge from the nationally ranked Warriors created enough separation to secure the win.
Shane Rykse led Spring Arbor with 20 points, connecting on four 3-pointers while adding eight rebounds and two steals.
Dante Favor posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals.
Ty Rykse added 11 points, including three triples, while
Warrick Elder chipped in 10 points off the bench.
As a team, the Cougars shot 42 percent from the field and an impressive 45 percent from beyond the arc, sinking 13 3-pointers. SAU also converted 87 percent (13-for-15) of its free throw attempts. Indiana Tech shot 50 percent overall and 44 percent from deep.
Spring Arbor (0-1) continues play in the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge on Saturday when it faces Cornerstone at 3 p.m.
