Cougars take down No. 22 Marian, sweep season series

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Big performances on both sides of the net powered the Spring Arbor University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over No. 22 Marian University on Wednesday night inside the McDonald Athletic Center. Feeding off an energetic home crowd, the Cougars claimed the match by set scores of 29-27, 22-25, 25-18, and 29-27, completing a season sweep of the nationally ranked Knights.

It was a career night for a pair of Cougars. Junior Keely Hinzman notched a double-double with 14 kills and a career-high 11 blocks while libero Palmer Fortress anchored the defense with a career-best 34 digs.
 
Kendall Bollenbacher added 13 kills and 17 digs and Isabelle Kirkendall chipped in 10 kills and nine digs. Camy Wedge finished with 27 assists and 20 digs.
 
The Cougars' defense was dominant, recording a season-high 15 team blocks to stifle Marian's attack and secure their fourth Crossroads League victory of the season.
 
Spring Arbor took the opening set in extra points before Marian battled back to even the match at one set apiece. From there, the Cougars surged, taking control in the third and grinding out a thrilling fourth set to seal the win.
 
Up next, Spring Arbor travels to Marion, Indiana to take on No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 11.
