SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team steamrolled past Kuyper College 100-50 in the fourth annual Field Trip Game. Over 1,000 students from around Jackson County came to "Pack the MAC" and helped propel the Cougars to their first victory of the year.
The Cougars were led by
Travis Grayson, who had a season-high of 27 points as well as six assists. The senior also handled the ball well, facilitating many of the Spring Arbor possessions.
Shane Rykse was the second-leading scorer in the game with his season-high of 20 points. Senior
Aden Zank followed with 11, which is also a season-high for him.
The Cougars came out hot, which was a key to the game, getting out to an 8-0 lead behind a couple of 3-pointers from Zank and Rykse, and a Grayson layup.
Spring Arbor continued to shoot the lights out in the first half, shooting 61 percent (22-for-36) from the field in the first half and 56 percent (10-for-18) from 3-point range, building up a 59-24 lead leading into halftime.
After the break, the Cougars kept their foot on the gas, outscoring Kuyper 41-26 over the final 20 minutes, finishing the game shooting 54 percent from the field, 42 percent from behind the arc, and 90 percent (17-for-19) from the free throw line.
The Cougars (1-2) are back home on Tuesday, Nov. 11, facing off against Lawrence Tech (1-0) starting at 7 p.m.
