UPLAND, Ind. – Spring Arbor University concluded an impressive two days at the Crossroads League Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana with a third place team finish – the best team finish in program history.
The Cougars garnered 75 points, which was just one point off the SAU record set a year ago, scoring in 12 events and securing eight podium finishes, including one first place, two second and five third.
Headlining the meet was the
Dean Reynolds and
Camden Khon one-two finish in the 1000 meters. Reynolds hit the NAIA A standard with his time of 2:28.98 while Khon ran a personal-best 2:29.16 and hit the B standard.
Caden Kyser,
Elijah Dyer and
Harrison Deur all secured All-Crossroads League honors with third place finishes in their respective events. Kyser ran a 50.06 in the 400 meters, Dyer turned in a personal-best 8.53 in the 60-meter hurdles and Deur hit a new PR in the weight throw with a mark of 15.60 meters.
In addition to the individual events, SAU had a strong showing in the relays. The Cougars had three relay teams earn spots on the podium with two posting national qualifying times. The 4x400 meter relay team of
Juan Pache,
Elijah Dyer,
Benjamin Schefka and
Caden Kyser finished second with a time of 3:23.95. The 4x800, consisting of
Howard Teed,
Cooper Singleton,
Benjamin Schefka and
Camden Khon, finished third with a 7:53.41 and hit the NAIA B standard. The distance medley relay team of
Jacob Singleton,
Juan Pache, Kalyb Vanwormer and
Dean Reynolds finished third with a time of 10:10.44 and hit the NAIA A standard.
Along with the all-conference performances, the Cougars had 10 new SAU Top 10 performances, including a record setting performance by
Jamaun Windham in the 60 meters. Windham's time of 6.87 broke DeWayne Gray mark of 6.88 set in 2011.
Marian University took home the team title. The Knights accumulated 315 points while Indiana Wesleyan University followed with 144.
