Softball suffers pair of losses to Saint Francis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the University of Saint Francis on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Cougars fell 4-0 in game one and 8-4 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saint Francis scored two runs in the first inning and that would be all the run support USF starting pitcher Alexa Huth would need, who improved to a perfect 6-0 in the circle this season.
  • Taylor Clark picked up the only hit in the game for the Cougars.
  • Emilee Underwood suffered the loss in the circle surrendering three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • A Brooke Meeker RBI hit in the top of the first inning gave Spring Arbor an early 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Francis erupted for six runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 advantage.
  • RBIs from Summer Ambler and Tammy Craven in the third helped SAU cut the deficit to three, 6-3. However, the home team responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to widen the margin to five, 8-3.
  • Spring Arbor loaded the bases with only one out in the fifth inning, and scored one run after Sarah Stewart drew a bases loaded walk. But, Saint Francis was able to escape the jam with no further damage.
  • The Cougars finished with nine hits, including two from Elaina Walker, who also scored twice.
  • Ava Poulson allowed six runs, only three earned, in 1.2 innings pitched. Craven added 4.1 innings of relief surrendering two runs while fanning three.
