Softball picks up wins over Judson, Dordt

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team earned a pair of wins on Wednesday defeating Judson University 6-2 and Dordt University 9-2.
 
The Cougars move to 5-2 in Florida and 6-3 overall on the season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor scored four runs in the first inning. Brooke Meeker got things started with an RBI double and Payton Grange followed with a two-RBI single. Matajia Cerroni punctuated the inning with an RBI hit to bring home Grange.
  • That was all the run support pitchers Ava Poulson and Tammy Craven needed. Poulson held Dordt to two runs on seven hits while striking out three batters over five innings of work while Craven tossed two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit.
  • Meeker went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored while Cerroni, Grange and Taylor Clark finished with two hits apiece.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor led 4-0 after the top of the fifth inning but Dordt plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within two.
  • The Cougars responded with three runs in the sixth – highlighted by an RBI double by Elaina Walker and an RBI triple by Summer Ambler – before breaking things wide open with two more runs in the seventh.
  • Walker was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in. Grace Luby and Nicole Barbeau also collected a pair of hits while Cerroni drove in two runs.
  • Emilee Underwood pitched another complete game for the Cougars – her fifth so far this season. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out 13.
