Softball advances in CL Tournament

UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team defeated Taylor University 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon in the Crossroads League Tournament Play-In Game.
 
With the victory, the Cougars advance in the tournament and join a six-team double elimination bracket starting on Wednesday, Apr. 30.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Taylor Clark put Spring Arbor on top in the first inning with a two-RBI single allowing Summer Ambler and Brooke Meeker to score.
  • Clark drove in another run in the third to give SAU a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Trojans pushed one run across in the bottom half of the third inning, but the Cougars responded with two runs in the fourth and added three more in the sixth.
  • Ambler went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Payton Grange also collected three hits while Meeker and Clark finished with two hits apiece. Clark also drove in three runs.
  • Emilee Underwood was terrific in the circle. The sophomore pitcher held the Taylor offense to just one run while scattering eight hits and striking out five.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will play the No. 3-seed Huntington University on Wednesday, Apr. 30 starting at noon. If the Cougars win, they will play again at 5 p.m. against No. 2-seed Indiana Wesleyan University. With a loss to the Foresters, SAU will face an elimination game on Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m.
